Best Ice Skating Rinks in Ohio: The Buckeye State's Best Ice

Published by Ice Skating IndexApril 16, 2026

Ohio may not carry the ice skating cachet of Minnesota or Michigan, but the Buckeye State has quietly built an impressive skating infrastructure — particularly in the Columbus area, where the Chiller family of rinks and OhioHealth Ice Trails have created a thriving community of skaters. From Cleveland's historic Winterhurst to Pegula-adjacent facilities in central Ohio, here are the best ice skating rinks in Ohio.

    Columbus Area

    OhioHealth Ice Chiller Dublin

Chiller Dublin is part of the OhioHealth Ice Ventures (formerly The Chiller) network and one of the best ice facilities in central Ohio. Two full NHL-sized sheets, year-round operation, and a comprehensive suite of programming including public skating, freestyle sessions, Learn to Skate, and adult and youth hockey leagues. Adult admission is around $10, and the pro shop offers sharpening with custom hollow selection. Located in Dublin — one of Columbus's most affluent northwestern suburbs.

OhioHealth Ice Chiller North — Lewis Center

Chiller North in Lewis Center serves the rapidly growing Delaware County suburbs north of Columbus. Two sheets, around $10 for adults, and the same quality programming found at all Chiller locations. Convenient for skaters in Lewis Center, Powell, Westerville, and surrounding communities.

OhioHealth Ice Chiller East — Canal Winchester

Chiller East serves the southeast Columbus area from its Canal Winchester location. Two sheets, adult admission around $10. The Chiller network collectively gives Columbus one of the most comprehensive ice skating ecosystems of any mid-sized American city.

    OhioHealth Ice Trails at Easton

OhioHealth Ice Trails at Easton is a seasonal outdoor rink near the Easton Town Center shopping area on Columbus's east side. Open from November through February, it's more of a public skating experience than a training facility — but the setting near one of Ohio's premier shopping destinations makes it a fun seasonal outing. Admission is around $8 for adults.

    OhioHealth Ice Trails at Polaris

OhioHealth Ice Trails at Polaris is the second location in the Ice Trails outdoor system, situated near the Polaris Fashion Place mall in northern Columbus. Also seasonal (November through February), with admission around $8 for adults. A great option for families in the Polaris, Westerville, and Lewis Center area during the winter months.

    Cleveland Area

    CSU Ice Arena — Cleveland

Located on the Cleveland State University campus in downtown Cleveland, CSU Ice Arena is a full-size indoor sheet open to the public for skating and home to the CSU Vikings hockey program. Adult admission is around $8 with CSU student discounts available. It's one of the more centrally located skating options in the city and a good choice for downtown Cleveland residents.

    Winterhurst Ice Rink — Lakewood

A beloved institution on Cleveland's west side, Winterhurst Ice Rink in Lakewood is a two-sheet city-operated facility that has been part of the community for generations. Adult admission is just $7 with $4 skate rental — outstanding value. Winterhurst is home to several local hockey and figure skating organizations and serves as a genuine neighborhood hub. Lakewood resident discounts apply.

    Strongsville Recreation Center — Strongsville

Strongsville Recreation Center Ice Rink is a two-sheet city facility serving the southwest Cleveland suburbs. Adult admission is around $8, with strong youth programming and recreation center pricing. Serves Strongsville, North Royalton, Broadview Heights, and surrounding Cuyahoga County communities.

    Tips for Skating in Ohio

Columbus has the most comprehensive ice network. The combination of the Chiller rinks and OhioHealth Ice Trails gives central Ohio skaters more options than most comparably sized American cities. All three Chiller locations are high quality.

Winterhurst is a Cleveland treasure. At $7 for adults, Winterhurst offers some of the best value skating in the region. The two-sheet facility is well-maintained and the staff is friendly.

Seasonal rinks at Easton and Polaris are great for families. While they're not suitable for serious training, the OhioHealth Ice Trails outdoor rinks offer a fun, accessible winter skating experience near major shopping destinations.

Ohio State fuels hockey passion. Ohio State's Big Ten hockey program has grown significantly in recent years, and interest in the sport across central Ohio continues to increase.
